First off, I want to say congratulations to Japan. I’m truly happy for that team, and it was a great win for them. Sawa’s goal was stunning, and I’m glad that their squad will get recognition. Even though we lost, and even though it hurts, I’m so proud of our girls. Alex- ahhh, Alex! I just.. I can’t even say how happy I am for her. Some people only pay attention to her and the team because of her looks, but she is so much more than a pretty face to me. This girl didn’t start playing at club level until she was 14 years old, and now, she’s the youngest member of the USWNT. At 14, most people would tell you that it’s too late to make anything happen, but look at her now. She makes things happen. She earned herself a scholarship to Berkeley. She scored the winning goal in the U-20 WWC. She led Berkeley’s soccer team in scoring each year she was there. She was a finalist for the Hermann Trophy. She scored the goal that qualified the U.S. for the 2011 WWC. She sealed the deal with a goal in the WC game against France. She scored the opening goal in the WC final, and then assisted Abby’s header. In her very first WC, she helped her team reach second place. She may not have that gold medal around her neck, but to me, she is truly a champion, and the epitome of natural talent. She has inspired me to possibly take up soccer again, and I am so so so thankful for that, because part of my happiness will be restored. 

This has been the best WC I’ve ever watched, and I’m really grateful for our team. They’re still the best in my eyes, and I love them with everything that I have. Despite all the sexism and discrimination that they have to face, they still manage to come out on top, and they’re still triumphant. Men and women can learn so much from this them, and as time goes on, I know that things will get easier, and people will respect them more. I hope that all of you will continue to support Alex as she plays in the WPS with the Flash. She really is a star on the rise, and I can’t wait to see what she’ll do next.

A gangster-walkin’ soccer mom? (You can barely see it because my camera phone is hanging on to it’s last pixels, but the license plate frame said, “Crippin’ ain’t easy.”) I’ve seen it all now. But I wonder what happens if little Jasmine’s team color just happens to be red? Seems to me that this might be the perfect scenario for an after-school tv special. Are you listening, ABC execs??
